Tomato Kurma | Thakkali Kuruma Recipe


2 Onions
4 tomatoes
1 tsp chilli powder
2 tsp coriander powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
Generous pinch of garam masala (optional)
To temper:
1 bay leaf
1 inch cinnamon stick
To grind:
2tsp grated coconut
4-5 cashews

How to make it

  • In a mixer grind the items by adding little of water into a smooth paste. Soak cashews in warm water before grinding.
  • In a wok heat oil and temper the items given.

  • Fry onions till transparent.

  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook till it turns mushy.

  • Throw all the masala powders given. Add 1-2 cups of water.

  • Check for salt and allow it to boil in medium flame.

  • Add the ground paste to the gravy. Mix well.
  • Once it starts to boil, switch off the stove.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with Idly or Dosa.
